What We DID NOT LIKE About the FootSmart Posture Corrective Brace

The one thing we disliked most about this product is how scratchy it could be when worn directly on the skin. Considering its brassiere-like colors, one would have presumed it had been designed to be worn under clothes.

Well, it wasn’t.

First, it tends to rub the armpit area and dig into the front of the arms. Even users who say they liked the product also said they wished it did not chafe the skin. To be able to keep using the product, they had to put it over a T-shirt. (That seemed to work.) Read their stories here, here, and here.

Then, it was bulky. Everyone agreed it would show under tight tops. It generally works if you wear it under office clothes, like one user did. (Click here for the story.) It will also work if you wear it at home, or in winter, as another user recommends here. But one thing’s for sure: you could never wear it outdoors on a hot summer’s day.

What we were rather amazed to see, though, is that despite their complaints, people kept wearing the FootSmart Posture Corrective Brace — probably because, after all is said and done, this devise does what you want a posture corrective brace to do: It straightens your posture. However difficult it may be to wear outdoors in summer, this is still a product that works.

Cons of the FootSmart Posture Corrective Brace

  • Contains latex. Might trigger allergies. (Best to wear it over a thin shirt, avoiding direct contact with your skin.
  • Rather stiff. Could be scratchy. (Same as above: wear it over a thin shirt.)
  • Bulky. Can’t be worn under thin fitted tops. (Not a problem if you’re staying at home, but if you’re going out, you’ll need to wear something looser and thicker — don’t you just wish your teenager had one of these?)
  • That terry cloth could stink if you don’t wash it regularly. (So please wash it regularly.)

Pros of the FootSmart Posture Corrective Brace

  • Soft non-elastic straps hold your shoulders back firmly — exactly what posture correctors are supposed to do.
  • Easily adjustable hook and loop. Changing the amount of pull the device gives is quick and easy.
  • Terry-cloth protector keeps your back dry and free from itching.

  • Washable by hand — good news, considering how sweat absorbent terry cloth can be.
  • Available in 2 colors: beige and white. (Wear white tops without getting flagged by the fashion police.)
  • Does not constrict the abdominal area. Does not look or feel like a corset. (A great comfort, especially if you’re a man.)

  • Unisex design. Can be worn without sacrificing masculine dignity. (You could pretend it’s a beige-colored gun holster, if you like.)
  • Made with 60% polyester, 17% rubber, 15% nylon, and 8% cotton. Easy to wash, easy to dry — so you have no reason not to wash it regularly, right?
  • Easily refundable. Buy it with practically no risk.

Results and Recommendation

The FootSmart Posture Corrective Brace is very effective at doing what it was designed to do, that is, correcting your posture. However, it could chafe unless you wear it over a thin shirt, and it’s somewhat bulky, so you need to wear it under a loose top.

So at the end of the day, while it will never be the most fashionable item in your closet, nor the most comfortable, we at Posture Brace Reviews recommend the FootSmart Posture Corrective Brace for people whose main priority is to keep their shoulders straight.

ITA-Med Posture Corrector Review

What We DID NOT LIKE About the ITA-Med Posture Corrector

At first glance, the ITA-Med Posture Corrector—with its white color and all those straps—sort of reminds one of a straitjacket.

And rightly so. The device is so stiff and constrictive, if you’ve ever wondered how it might feel to be in a straitjacket with metal rods at the back, then the ITA-Med Posture Corrector can easily help you find out.

This user is being diplomatic when he says here that it can be “difficult to maneuver.”

So if you’re planning to wear it to the park while you play with your kids—good luck! Pray you never have to pick anything up. Or retie your shoelaces. Or retie one of your kids’ shoelaces. Or bend over for any reason at all. Or move too much. Touch football? It’s out of the question!

If you insist on using this product, be aware that it was designed for people who sit or stand still all day. We suppose, anyway, that if you were the very active type, you probably wouldn’t have rounded shoulders and soft abs in the first place.

Another thing we found inconvenient about the ITA-Med Posture Corrector is the measuring needed to find the right size.

Now, measuring may seem like a simple, cut-and-dried process. But the instruction sheet says we need to measure the “circumference midway between waist and hips.”

Now where on earth is that exact point “between waist and hips”? Have you ever tried measuring your hips? If you’re not a seamstress, it could be hard to decide where your hips actually are. And some of us haven’t seen our waists either for a decade or so. So to find that special point between these two unidentified locations—no wonder people are having trouble finding their right size. Look at their stories here, and here!

So take our word for it: don’t try to take your own measurements. Find a seamstress and let her figure out where the point between your waist and hips are.

Then, you’ll probably get the right size.

Cons of the ITA-Med Posture Corrector

  • Hard to find offline. (But the best prices are found online, so why look offline at all?)
  • Does not fit children. (You need to get the pediatric model for that.)
  • The metal stays could make a chore of bending over to pick things up. (Bend your legs instead. Bad back or not, that’s the recommended way.)
  • You’ll need measure yourself to find the right size. (We don’t get a chance to flaunt our stats very often, so take this opportunity and flaunt away!)
  • It’s actually noticeable under tight shirts. (Wear something looser.)

Pros of the ITA-Med Posture Corrector

  • Straightens not just the shoulders but the entire back.
  • Keeps the abdomen in as well. One product, two benefits, and only one device to wash!
  • Machine washable, cold. You can save your hot water for better purposes, such as a long, relaxing shower after a long, back-breaking day of work (no pun intended).
  • Has adjustable metal stays, for better support.
  • Unisex design. Buy it for your partner, then use it yourself—the perfect Christmas gift!
  • Latex-free. No allergy issues with this product.
  • Unnoticeable under clothes.
  • Available even in big sizes—because big guys need caring too.
  • Helpful even for scoliosis. If that isn’t high performance, we don’t know what is.
  • Doctor-recommended. If you don’t believe us, believe them.

Results and Recommendation

The ITA-Med Posture Corrector is very restrictive, hard to size properly, but for people who succeed in finding the right size, it gives support firm enough to help even scoliotics. Not for people who live active lifestyles, unless they intend to use this on their rest days, but recommended for everyone else who want and need good, strong posture support.

So the gist: would we at Posture Brace Reviews recommend this product? Surprisingly, yes.

Our reasons: First, it does what posture correctors are supposed to do, that is, straighten your back and shoulders. Not only that, it does it so well that even this user who said it was uncomfortable still called it “one of the better supports” he/she has ever bought. Read the story here.

Other users also praise the firm support it gives. Read here.

Second, it comes with very good recommendations. One user says here that her doctor recommended it. Another bought it for somebody with scoliosis, and that person loves it. Read here.

So if doctors and scoliotics recommend this product and find it useful, we at Posture Brace Reviews do not hesitate to do so either.

The Soft Form Posture Brace Review

What We DID NOT LIKE About the Soft Form Posture Brace

Let’s start with the bright side: the designers of the Soft Form Posture Brace really put a lot of thought into making a flexible, non-restrictive product that people can comfortably wear. After all, if you stop wearing your posture brace because it’s too restrictive, it will end up not very useful, right?

soft from posture brace review picture

The problem is this: they focused so much on making the posture brace flexible and soft that, in the end, it’s become too soft and flexible to provide the kind of support you want for our back if you have a posture problem.

I mean, hey, if what you wanted was unrestricted movement and flexibility, you would not be looking to wear a posture brace in the first place, right?

Other people seem to think so. See what they have to say here, here and here.

So if the Soft Form Posture Brace will not keep your back and shoulders straight, why should you buy this product?

Well, one thing it can be really useful for is giving you good lower back support, to prevent injuries while you are exercising. Its well-ventilated design keeps you from feeling too warm even while you are active. By working out and naturally strengthening your back and abdominal muscles, you will be able to improve your posture, eventually eliminating any further need for a posture brace! Read the story of one user who did this here.

Also, if you only want additional support to relieve your shoulder and back muscles of some stress and will not depend on this product to hold your posture for you, this product with its softness and flexibility could actually be exactly what you want. See how well it worked for one such person here.

Pros of the Soft Form Posture Brace

  • Soft adjustable shoulder straps provide maximum comfort,  do not pinch the skin and, as a side benefit, keep bra straps from slipping.
  • Criss-cross design at the back provides additional lumbar support.
  • Elastic side panels not only support your back and abdomen but also gives you the illusion of a figure. (This alone could be a good reason to get this.)
  • Does not show under clothing, so it’s easier to maintain that illusion of a figure.
  • Durable nylon exterior protects the device against everyday wear and tear, and keeps it looking like new for a longer period of time.
  • Supportive foam interior not only gives comfortable support, it also means you stay soft and huggable to your kids and partner even while you wear the device.
  • Comfortable cotton lining keeps you from getting sweaty and itchy, so you won’t get tempted to take the device off when the temperature rises.
  • Latex-free. No need to worry about itching if you’re allergic to the material.
  • Two flexible, removable stays support your back but still let you bend forward when absolutely necessary. Easy to remove them too, if you really don’t want them.
  • Easy to find the right sizing. Just measure around the fullest part of your abdomen.

Cons of the Soft Form Posture Brace

  • The pressure on the shoulders may be too gentle for some. (The amount of pressure can be increased by adjusting the belt around the waist.)
  • The abdominal support makes it somewhat difficult to breathe abdominally. Do not wear this if you’re doing a solo at a musical.
  • Available in just one color: beige. (Choose non-white tops, and this shouldn’t be a problem.)
  • Limits movement. You can’t shrug as emphatically anymore. (You might actually have to resort to talking to communicate uncertainty.)
  • Not returnable, due to hygiene reasons. (Completely reasonable, we think.)

Results and Recommendation

The Soft Form Posture Brace offers firm abdominal, waist, and lower back support. However, its ability to keep the back and shoulders straight and act like a true posture brace leaves something to be desired.

Indeed, you could think of the money you use to buy this product as $30-plus dollars well spent on a two-in-one girdle-and-lower-back-support device that also — as a bonus — gives some support to your shoulders. In that situation, you could actually be getting a pretty good deal!

But if you’re looking for something to keep your back and shoulders straight all day — the usual concept of a posture brace — we would suggest you look somewhere else.
